The meditation is an invitation to rest as presence, emphasizing awareness without judgment or the need to fix anything. Here’s a summary of its key aspects:
• Restful Wakefulness:
Magdi encourages a state of “restful wakefulness,” where one is aware and present without being in a state of torpor. It’s about celebrating the openness and effortlessness of awareness.
• Non-judgmental Noticing:
The meditation involves noticing thoughts and sensations without pushing them away or judging them. It’s about observing the space in which sensations appear, recognizing that all experiences arise within awareness.
• Releasing Tension:
Participants are invited to release tension in their bodies, noticing any physical sensations and allowing them to be without resistance.
• Understanding the Nature of Self:
The meditation aims to provide a glimpse of the true self beyond the mind and the “me” thought. The concept of personhood is described as a mask that veils one’s universal nature, leading to a sense of separation and limitation.
• Awareness Beyond the Story:
The meditation emphasizes that one is not their personal story or history but rather the awareness that is viewing the story. The practice is about recognizing that the perceived self is an illusion.
• The Nature of Awareness:
The true self is described as infinite, borderless awareness, an invisible presence that perceives form but is not itself perceived. This awareness is without color, gender, age, history, or location; it is always present.
• Universal vs. Personal:
The meditation guides one to understand that awareness is universal, not personal, and cannot be limited. The perceived world, including the body and mind, is within the field of perceiving.
• Living as Love and Freedom:
After a glimpse of truth, the practice encourages living as love, presence, and freedom, exploring this state in every situation. It involves releasing resistance and sinking into peace, which is impersonal and universal.
• Sinking In:
The idea of “sinking in” is likened to a leaf on water, relaxing and going with the flow, allowing a deeper tuning to arise. This involves releasing the mind’s patterns and expanding the body’s sense of self beyond personal limitations.
• Direct Path:
This approach to meditation is considered a direct path to understanding, where there are no practices and where one looks directly at the source of awareness. The direct path may not be suitable for everyone, and many other paths exist, including practices focused on devotion, silence, nature, or asceticism.
The meditation is a journey towards understanding that what you believe yourself to be is not what you truly are, and it encourages an exploration of this understanding through awareness, non-resistance, and a movement towards universal experience rather than personal experience.
