Bill: Realization this week

Posted by bill2smith:

Bill Smith:

I had a realization this week,
though to others this may seem obvious.

These revelations come and go.
Will it seem important in a week? Who knows.

In a recent zoom meeting, there was some discussion
of whether Awareness could be “boring”.

This didn’t make sense to me but I couldn’t articulate why.
It came to me a few days later.
The obvious answer is that Awareness has no attributes.
It can’t be defined or described.

Nisargadatta sometimes distinguishes between
the “unknown” (unmanifest) and the “known”
(the manifest world, including consciousness).

But Awareness really includes both:
Everything exists within Awareness.
Otherwise there would be duality.

The images that appear on the screen of life,
what we perceive and feel, may not be “real”
– they may be illusory – but they occur
(everything occurs) within Awareness.

As D.H. Lawrence said, nothing falls
through the hands of God.
If pleasure, pain, happiness or suffering occurs,
it occurs within Awareness.
But none of these experiences can be equated with Awareness.

Boredom may occur within Awareness but it’s
absurd to say they are equal.

My “practice” for awhile has been
to use a trigger to “find Awareness.”

The pointer I used was “Pure Being!”

That would often shift my attention,
resulting in a calmness, an openness.
But with this new recognition, at least for now,
there is no need for a “trigger” or pointer.

“Ah, this moment is Awareness,” no matter how it feels,
no matter what experience, perceptions, thoughts are occurring.

I know, it’s obvious, and may not seem like much of a revelation.
But it’s real for me, at least at this moment.

    Thank you Bill for sharing!

For “me” Awareness felt empty and boring for decades.

    I didn’t spend time with the timeless;
there was no appreciation for the most precious.

    Is “nondualism” an acquired taste?

Quite amazing all of this ❤️

    Hi Bill,
Yes, awareness has no phenomenal attributes. It is primal to images on the screen, and yet all images are made out of it, as it is the one and only reality. That which neither appears nor disappears.

On another note, what is boring is to listen to my neighbor yap about his car.
    And yet…
    Even that can be not-boring.

A slight internal switch can have a significant impact on how we perceive and feel.

    Much love
