This was in my email today:
“But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. (16) Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. (17) Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
2 Corinthians 3:15-17
How to translate this into contemporary language:
“But even to this day” = Some things don’t change.
“when Moses is read” = when sacred teachings are studied by the person
“a veil lies on their heart” = the me-belief blocks a deeper understanding of reality.
(16) Nevertheless
“when one turns to the Lord” = Being aware of Awareness, soaking in Presence… attention rests in its Source and is unburdened by the unaware addiction of conceptualizing/dividing.
“the veil is taken away” = the me-belief, the filter of naming and identifying, loses its imagined power to separate.
(17) “Now the Lord is the Spirit” = Now, the one in charge is Presence, Love, Intelligence, Openness.
“and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” = In the Presence of I am – the absence of the person (me-belief) – there is no sufferer, no psychological limitation/resistance.
18 But we all, with unveiled face,
beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image
from glory to glory,
just as from the Lord,
the Spirit.
Sorry for the mess.
The presentation here isn’t very sexy,
but I find the basic idea very interesting…
to translate scripture into contemporary language, to demystify, to debunk… to be simple and practical, to offer entry-points for inquiry/exploration:
What am I?
How does mind work?
What am I really certain about?
Who is aware of the difference between conceptualizing and direct experience?
